G-Star School of the Arts is proud to announce that CNN is coming to the school to do a documentary titled "Honor Reclaimed" on two very distinguished persons on this Monday, January 12 at 10 AM.  The documentary is hosted by Soledad O'Brien, the former host of The Today Show, who now has her own show on CNN.  The documentary is about Staff Sergeant Melvin Morris, a Vietnam Medal of Honor winner, who will be here speaking to to 200 of our G-Star Social Science students about his experiences in Vietnam and the circumstances leading up to the Medal of Honor that was awarded to him 44 years after the fact.   Ms. O'Brien is also filming Mr. Morris’ granddaughter, Brianna Barnes, who is one of our G-Star students, on that same day as she attends school.  She is her grandfather’s photographer and learned her photographic skills at G-Star.  Ms. O'Brien was so impressed with her work she wanted to do a segment of the documentary on Brianna.  Soledad’s production company has been filming the documentary on Mr. Morris for the past few weeks.

Staff Sergeant Melvin Morris led soldiers across enemy lines to retrieve the body of a US sergeant, who had been killed.  While under attack, he used grenades to eliminate enemy forces that were hidden in bunkers.  Despite being shot  three times, Morris retrieved the sergeant's body as well as sensitive documents that were in the sergeant's possession.

The show is produced by Sheila Steffen who is the Senior Producer at CNN and former Producer of the ABC News.  "Mr. Morris, Brianna, and their whole family are so nice," stated Steffen.  "It will be a great day for the filming of Mr. Morris and his granddaughter."
