G-STAR STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN URBAN SEARCH AND RESCUE
EXERCISE
Rescue vehicles dotted the landscape of Palm Beach County
Fire Rescue Headquarters on March 26th and 27th as
agencies from throughout South Florida began a large scale Urban Search and
Rescue Drill set in a flood disaster scenario. Fire Rescue units, marine
vehicles and heavy equipment all came into play as victims were rescued from
submerged structures, sinking boats and collapsed buildings. Playing the part of
the victims were 10 members of G-Star School of the Arts “X-Scream Team”.
Donning life vests and special effects makeup, students aided in the training of
emergency response personnel.
The inter-agency exercise allows Fire Rescue, Law Enforcement
and other governmental agencies to train under the most realistic disaster
conditions possible and relies on the student “actors” to make it that way. The
students simulated panic, injury and trauma on a level the participants had not
seen before, making the exercise a complete success.
