G-STAR HOLDS TWO BIG EVENTS!

G-Star Theater Department’s One Acts are a smash hit!  “Hilarious!” “Light-hearted!” “A wonderful night all the way through!”  These are just some of the audience comments after viewing the performances.  The One Acts run through Friday evening.  To buy tickets you must have your student purchase them through the Theater Department for you.  Shows begin at 7:30 PM.  The One Acts performances are a fundraiser to send our students to State competitions.  Each year G-Star student performers garner top honors in Regional Theater Festivals and continue on to the State Theater Festival in Tampa.  It is a great honor, however, taking over 40 students by charter bus and overnight stays is expensive.  Please come see the show.  The purchase of a ticket will help send our students on their way!

X-Scream Halloween has biggest year ever!  Record crowds have far surpassed previous attendance numbers!  The Palm Beach Post named the five best haunted houses in Palm Beach County with G-Star’s Halloween extravaganza, X-Scream Halloween, as the lead story!  Bigger and better than ever, X-Scream Halloween offers a chilling walking tour of a post-apocalyptic world where mutants reign and terror is around every corner.  “This is the second year our main performance is in the G-Star Studios Sound Stage 1.  It is a copy of a Warner Bros. movie sound stage,” say Haunt Master George Colavecchio.  “We’re the only Halloween Haunt in the world in a major studio sound stage.  It makes the atmosphere incredibly different and more intense.”  When the call went out to G-Star students to volunteer to work on X-Scream, over 400 of them showed up.  You can buy tickets at the door or online at xscreamhalloween.com.  There is a children’s early show from 7 PM to 8 PM – ticket price $5.00; the full-scare adult show is from 8 PM to Midnight – ticket price $13.00.  The show runs this Friday and Saturday night, then on Halloween night (Thursday), and on the next Friday and Saturday night (November 1 & 2).  This is also one of our biggest fundraisers for the school.  It’s a great event for the whole family!  See you there!

NEWS FROM G-STAR FILM DEPARTMENT!
The latest version of the G-Star Promotional video was produced, shot and edited by senior Arden Jurskis. Compiling new and archival footage, Arden was able to produce a promotional piece at the professional level. Thanks Arden.

Throughout the school year, our students turn out over a hundred films.  One time each year the students write, direct, produce and star in one major professional film production.  This year the film "It's Time" has gone through script development, cast & crew of over 50 students have been selected, and pre-production is underway.  Production is right around the corner as the 2013-14 student film rolls out the red carpet for lights, cameras and action.  What's it about, you ask?  It is the story of a young, quiet teenager who is trying to come out of his inner shell while overcoming a traumatic experience.

G-Shorts is in full swing. This is a student run, independent gorilla style film short competition where students are responsible for the entire production process. "Innovation" is this year's theme. The film short program will be held in the G-Star Sound Stage on Friday, November 22nd. This is an evening of pure entertainment that you don't want to miss.

WWII VETERANS DOCUMENTARY SHOOT WAS EXCELLENT!
Our new afterschool club, the Film Production Club, sponsored by Mr. Suskin filmed its first documentary project on World War II veterans.  Ten veterans from D-Day, The Battle of the Bulge, Okinawa, and Iwo Jima took part in the documentary.  WWII Navy  veteran Tom Kaiser arranged the group for their stories to be told.  Mr. Kaiser said the veterans were very happy with the production and the professionalism of the students.  Mr. Suskin made sure that the students did work on the production on a professional scale.  The raw footage looks excellent.  The project is in post-production by the students and will be ready by November 11th.

X-SCREAM HALLOWEEN OPENING NIGHT A SMASHING SUCCESS!

Our annual haunted house, X-Scream Halloween (the only walking tour of a haunted movie studio in the Florida) opened last night to record crowds.  Usually, opening night early in October produces light crowds and gives our student performers and crew a chance to “warm up” for the next three weekends.  Not so this year!  Over 400 G-Star students came out this year to work on the event and their efforts have paid off.  George Colavecchio, our Haunt Master, did a fabulous job developing his crews, actors, singers, and dancers as well as new marketing concepts for the event.  “The whole operation is student run,” says George.  “They did it all themselves.  I just provided a little guidance.  These are the most creative kids I’ve ever seen.”  Creative - and organized.  From the parking set up, to the front gate and ticket booth, to the lines into the haunts, and on to the entire event execution, it ran smoothly and professionally.  In a preview of audience reaction to the haunt, this past Thursday Palm Beach County Youth Leadership, with 50 top students from the School District’s high schools, visited our campus for a tour.  They requested a walk-though of X-Scream, one of the largest Halloween events in the entire State.  When they emerged from the G-Star Studios Sound Stage 1 (over 12,000 sq. ft., 45 ft. high), where the main haunt’s atmosphere is controlled unlike any other Halloween haunt in the nation, they were thrilled.  “They couldn’t stop talking about it on the bus after the visit,” stated Attorney Phil DiComo, one of the Youth Leadership organizers.  “They all were very excited.”   X-Scream Halloween is one of our school’s largest fundraisers.  All proceeds go directly to the school to be used for our student’s needs.  Please make plans to attend and bring your whole family and friends.  It’s a great event you won’t want to miss!  The haunt will continue to run on Friday and Saturday nights, October 18 & 19 and 25 & 26, and then for three nights on Thursday, October 31 (Halloween night) and on Friday and Saturday, November 1 & 2.  Doors open at 7 PM.  See you there!

We have accomplished a new milestone with over 12,000 views of our new Newsletter you are reading now since its inception in late August.  We are very happy this Newsletter has been such a hit.  Please continue to watch for new information about the school.

Coming up tomorrow, Saturday, we have a crew of 12 students filming a professional documentary under the direction of Mr. Gregg Suskin, one of our English teachers.  This is an all-student production about WWII veterans.  Ten veterans of the “Greatest Generation” will be interviewed in our Media Production Studio in Bldg. K.  This documentary will be used by professional fundraisers for our new cafeteria which will also be a tribute to our WWII veterans and their great sacrifices for our freedom.  Mr. Suskin owned a production company in New York with over 100 employees.  He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary for Editor of Cosmic Voyage.  His clients included: IBM, Coca-Cola, Pfizer, AT&T, Viacom, Major League Baseball, British Airways, MasterCard, Procter and Gamble, Whitehall Robbins, Glaxo Smith Kline, Lever, Sony Pictures, Young and Rubicam, Ogilvy and Mather, Grey Advertising, Chiat Day, Saatchi and Saatchi, FCB, Lowe and Partners.  For our participating students this will be an ”in-house” professional production offered only at G-Star.
